#HistoryMonday
It is July and the day of Independence is swiftly approaching in America, I thought it appropriate to talk about the American Revolution.
July 4th, our day of independence, is a day to celebrate the freedom we indulge in from our ancestors sweat, blood and tears. For they fought for almost ten years (1775-1783) for the freedom that Americans hold dear. "The shot heard around the world" was fired in April 1775 which started the seemingly neverending war for the freedom of the colony's from the tyranny of Britain.
The colony's had suffered unfair treatment under the hands of Britain without a say in Parliament. The colony's were now growing every day weren't solely dependent upon its mother country. It was like a restless teenager being treated like an incompetent child by the hands of its mother country.
They needed their freedom, their will to be heard. They fought for nearly ten years showing the world they would become free, independent indeed. In the beginning, things didn't go so well for the Americans with almost freezing in winter at Valley Forge, but a surprising win giving the Americans hope with their French Allies.
And in 1776 they signed The Declaration of Independence finalizing the detachment from England, but the Red Coats were stubbornly refusing to give up the colonies. Gallantly, men such as General George Washington and General Marie-Joseph Paul Lafayette leading the way. For these men knew the taste of tyranny and were not willing to stand aside. I would not live the life I do without the courage those men had.
Liberty is a thing so many don't appreciate until they do not have it. Liberty causes men to do funny things, God made us be free and think independently. We were not made to be treated as anything less than God's creation, wonderfully and beautifully made. Freedom is worth gold and sometimes it good to reminded of that.
