Question:

I'm writing an original that wont be out for a while. It is based in japan but I have been wondering if I should switch many names over to english names or use first names and no honorifics/last names first.

If names are switched to english, the main character will remain Japanese but the rest of the characters will change in appearance to fit their names. The school itself will still be japanese inspired but with a more western twist to it to fit the names while also keeping the ideas I had for the book intact since most of the story takes place outside of the school.

So should I change the story so it is easier for those who arent well acquainted with Japan's country and their culture or should it remain the same and I have notes at the beginning to make things easier for people to understand?

You're 100% right. Western names would help people newer to Japanese culture but it would actually do more harm to my story I think if I were to water down certain things that would be affected if I westernized it.

Like I said in the comment above I'm keeping the Japanese aspects in it but dropping the honorific system for the sake of keeping readers from being confused lol. The honorifics isn't as important because i can simply introduce characters as upper or underclassmen without them and teachers will simply be labeled teachers.

And if you want me to talk to you more about it I'll send you my discord in dms!!

@LaNcE_mCcLaiN_1 unfortunately I don't have an Instagram dedicated to my writing/fandoms etc. I've only got a private one that is for my family and friends. If I ever do make one for my writing and fandoms I'll be sure to let you know :)

i haven't been on wattpad for a very long time, but earlier i remembered the poem i wrote for your solace fic and decided to look back at our messages and read the poem again. i'm glad that you reached out to me and asked me to write something for your fic :) it was my favorite fanfic at the time so i was really happy. although, i am embarrassed by my writing during that time and i was young so it was definitely not great lol. still, thank you for giving me the opportunity :) and i was amazed to see that you're rewriting it! i truly am happy to see that you are still writing

If you are interested at all, I would love to give you another chance to write any future poems in the story if i include any just for nostalgia and to allow you to get out there once again and get featured in something. If you're interested let me know in dms sweetie. Other than that your message made me smile lol. I love getting messages like this and if you EVER need anything at all whether it is advice or a friend dont be afraid to talk to me
