Hi, I'm Valentina A, and I'm a young Nigerian writer, storyteller, dreamer, and someone who has always had more stories in my head than I know what to do with.
If you asked me when I first decided that I wanted to become an author, I honestly don't think I could give you one exact moment. Writing wasn't something that suddenly appeared in my life one day. It feels more like something that slowly became a part of who I am. I have always loved stories, characters, emotions, and the feeling of getting completely lost in another world. Eventually, I realized that I didn't only want to read those worlds. I wanted to create my own.
That is where my journey as Valentina A began.
For me, writing is so much more than putting words together. It is taking an idea that exists only in my imagination and turning it into something real. It is creating a person who didn't exist before and giving them a personality, a history, dreams, fears, relationships, and a reason to exist within a story. It is creating places that don't exist and making them feel real enough that someone else can picture themselves there.
Sometimes, a story begins with something as simple as a name.
Sometimes it begins with a title.
Sometimes it is one random scene that appears in my head.
And sometimes, I have no idea where an idea is going until I start writing it.
I love that about storytelling.
I love not always knowing exactly where an idea will take me.
Why I Write
I write because there are so many stories inside my imagination that deserve to exist.
I write because I love the feeling of creating something from absolutely nothing. Before a story exists, there is only an idea. There are no characters, no chapters, no relationships, no secrets, and no ending. Then slowly, everything begins to come together.
A character gets a name.
Another character enters their life.
A conflict appears.
A secret is revealed.
A relationship changes.
And suddenly, that tiny idea has become an entire world.
