In church, the preacher said to pray for the tarot card place to close because it’ demonic. I suppose I can understand something being against your religion, but praying for someone’s business, possibly someone’s means to live, to be shut down because it offends your deity, no matter your religion, is pretty fucked up. I don’t think it’s very different from if they prayed for the Trevor Project to be shut down because it helps LGBTQIA+ teens and kids. I guess they aren’t outright hating people, and even if I as an atheist don’t believe in “the power of prayer,” they’re basically intentionally trying to hurt people because their beliefs don’t align with theirs.
Don’t misunderstand, my best friend is a Christian, and I don’t care. She knows I’m not a Christian, and I’m pretty sure she doesn’t care. We don’t talk religion because we know our opinions differ greatly and we don’t want to argue. I don’t care what anyone’s religion is. That’s their choice to make, not mine, and I won’t try to force my beliefs on them because I don’t want their beliefs forced on me. But intentionally trying to hurt somebody that has done you no harm, no matter what you believe, is fucked up. And I don’t want a part of it. So, yeah, I think tarot readings are cool, and I don’t think they’re “demonic.” It may have been out of line for me to come across as mocking, but I think my family is out of line for calling something “evil.”
