I wish people knew the difference between Homer's Odysseus, Epic Odysseus and Ulysses. Ulysses cheated so many times, much more than Homer's Odysseus. Homer's Odysseus cheated on Penelope with Circe. I will say it was kind of non consensual on both their parts but it was still cheating. The Greek men saw it as it's perfectly normal to have intercourse with another woman when you're away at war, especially if you are a king. Greek men had so many sex slaves. If a servant girl is raped. It's fine, it doesn't matter, but if a princess if raped it's offence to the man not her! Women were just objects. Just for a man's pleasure. Back to Homer's Odysseus, yes, he was raped by Calypso. Also the only reason why Odysseus never has sex with Nausicaa was because she was a princess and that would be offence to the king. In someverisons Odysseus had this woman Hecuba, who he tried to bed with but she didn't want that. Keep in mind so many adaptations of the Greek's Odyssey. In some verions of the Odyssey, Penelope even cheated, sleeping with all the suitors creating the god, Pan, in other verions the exact same thing happened but instead it was rape. There are just so many verions of the Odyssey, not even counting the Roman's verison. Now our lovely EPIC Odysseus, never once cheated on his wife. It was implied that Calypso sa'd him, letting the listener glance over it, but you could never really tell. He never cheated. Also, there is a difference in SA, rape, and SH. Rape is when unwanted sexual intercourse is forced upon someone, while sexual assault is when any unwanted sexual contact happens without consent. Sexual harassment refers to non-physical sexual conduct such as gestures or sexual comments. Odyssey Calypso raped and sa'd Odysseus while Epic Calypso only sa'd and sh'd him.
