honest question for my rainbow comrades out there: is it possible to feel traumatized from getting outed despite it not being your gender?
          
          for context, my mother outed me about 3 years ago in 2022 to my family about my name change. it did fuck me up in the long term (trust issues, emotional problems and what not), but would that still be considered outing? im not sure somebody pls help me out here :(

hell yeah, i definitely would. the best way i can put it is like this. say you tell your mom one of your passwords to a platform, and she goes behind your back and tells someone else about that password but she doesn’t say WHICH platform it goes to. she still breached that trust. 
            
            that platform, though it may take the other person a few tries to figure out where to plug in that password, it’s possible to still find it if they’re really searching hard for it. that platform is one piece of who you are. it may not be the trunk of the tree, but it’s still you. and you weren’t ready to share your fruits with anyone else other than your mom.
            
            so yes i consider that an outing
