@arcane_emery I'm honoured to know that!<3
Since different tips work for different writers, I'll tell you what I do, I hope that works?
1. Every book has its reader and I won't please everyone, so I've learnt to just have fun! :D The right readers will find me. And they have. (And I'm happy the rest haven't :p )
2. If I want better than average readers, my plot and grammar has to be better than average.
3. I personally judge people by the books they read and I see stars when someone recommends me a good book, so keeping that in mind, I want people who read my books to look like people with great taste. It's a big responsibility to be worth people's time. Too much pressure but satisfying when it works! *v* so I take it seriously and I'm trying to work on it
4. Working on descriptions is a great step. Powerful and colourful adjectives, strong verbs, synonyms for when the word isn't doing its magic are like basic ingredients for every author. But a rookie mistake is to not know the limits and exaggerate. Purple prose isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you can pull it off nicely, then go crazy with Grammarly!
5. Do lots of research about what you're writing. It pleases the people that know that you know and makes you reliable and smart. Never stop learning.
6. Everyone's feedback isn't something you should care about. But the people with great taste and with a knack at delivering their opinions kindly, take their word when they give criticism. Stay humble.
7. If you're enjoying what you're writing, then forget everything I've said up there.
8. Most importantly, read good books.
Every writer's been full of a little bit of crazy bullshit, don't take their tips too seriously. Different things work for different people. There are people that will still enjoy what you have to offer. Just make sure your plot is good, or at least one character is worth someone's time. That's all!
Good luck and happy writing, I hope you make it big!
