            on GAWD. aden was a WIP when i watched altered carbon, and i didn’t have a last name for him yet, so i just used the sleeve’s last name bc i was too lazy to try and come up with a better one </3 of course! the same sentiment applies to you!! i never shy from interactions, especially with new people!  ⠀⠀ [ his comfort is only for a few moments as his hand on the couch moves to lucian, resting against his shoulder. it was an act to make sure that he was okay. but then, lucian makes his worry fizzle away when he decides to give aden a look. content that he’s all right, he pulls his hand away and lets it rest on the back of the couch once more. ]
             ⠀⠀  your shoes are heavy? dear god. are you telling me that you can walk right now?   [ aden attempts to stifle his laugh with his fingers, but he fails quite miserably, the sound still bubbling out. ]   i’m not letting you sleep on the couch. greta might actually kill me, or you.   [ aden stands from the couch then, brushing off his pants before he’s holding out a hand. he’s offering help. ]
             ⠀⠀  for your information, i’m always nice to you. i’m just being extra nice tonight because i know there’s not a way in hell you’re going to remember it.   [ he flashes a smile as he stands there, with his hand still outstretched because he refuses to accept no for an answer. totally not because he’s mildly terrified of greta and hilde. no way. ]   if you sleep on the floor, your back is gonna hurt and then i’m gonna have to answer your questions tomorrow morning, which i’d really rather not do. come on. i’ll take you to a spare with an actual, comfortable bed.

[ A low, vibrating sound somewhere between a chuckle and a groan rumbles in his chest. Lucian tries to shake his head, but the movement makes the room tilt, causing him to instantly freeze and squeeze his eyes shut for a beat. When they blink open again, heavy and out of focus, he fixes Aden with a look that is entirely too intense for someone who can barely sit upright. He slowly drags his hand away from the sofa, his fingers brushing clumsily against Aden’s knee before dropping like a stone onto his own lap. ] 
            
            " 'M not... threatening anyone, " [ he mumbles, the words slightly running into each other as he fights to keep his tongue moving properly. He lets his chin drop toward his chest, staring at his own boots as if they belong to someone else. ] " Too heavy. My shoes are heavy. Ximena can... sleep fine. I'm just a ghost tonight. A very... expensive, couch-dwelling ghost. "
            
            [ He forces his eyes back up, a lopsided, entirely unbothered smirk pulling at one side of his mouth. The sharp assassin is completely buried under the alcohol now, leaving only a stubborn, sleepy man who refuses to admit defeat. He leans a little harder into the cushions, his shoulder slumping as he gestures vaguely between them. ] " You talk too much when you're being nice, Aden. Just... go to bed. I'm staying right here. The floor is looking... surprisingly comfortable anyway. " 

your brain must run more often than you’d like it to, then.   [ aden shifts slightly on the couch, tucking his right ankle beneath his left knee. he was going to sit comfortably, no matter the circumstances that brought him here. ]   oh, i know you don’t think that low of me. i’m teasing you, taking advantage of only the opportunity to do so—- never you.   [ he tilts his head then, green gaze assessing lucian’s body language. he was tired; wouldn’t be able to drive home in this state, not without causing an accident or potential harm. ]   i’m satisfied that you’re answering my questions, yes.   [ he pauses then, an intake of breath through his slightly parted lips. ]   you can stay here tonight, you know. i have plenty of spare bedrooms, or you can take the main one and i’ll take a spare. it’s not like i sleep much anyway. just.. don’t wake ximena, or threaten her if you two happen to meet. you already know the outcome of that scenario, i’m sure.  (..)  not that i’m saying you would, but i have to lay down that law anyway.

why is my drink on you? ..you’ve never done this before.   [ aden presses his lips into a thin line as he crosses his arms. he’s hesitant, and rightfully so in his mind. ]   fine, fine.   [ he moves one of his arms so that he can grab the blue drink with edible glitter mixed in. it’s not his usual, but it was given to him. ]   thank you.

[ Lucian’s jaw tightens, a single muscle feathering along his jawline the only betrayal of the sudden surge of irritation swirling behind his chest. He doesn't shift his stance, standing tall and immovable, but his eyes darken as he locks eyes with Aden. The accusation hits a little too close to a truth he refuses to acknowledge. He exhales a slow, quiet breath through his nose, his voice dropping to a low, gravelly murmur. ] " Because words complicate things ," [ he states bluntly, the edge in his tone sharp enough to cut. ]  " I said what I said. If it didn't translate the way you wanted, then look at the facts instead of parsing through my syllables. I don't have the patience to paint a picture for you. "

             ⠀⠀⠀⠀ “no, i will not *forget it,* lucian. tell me what you meant instead of leaving the fucking conversation!”  aden throws his hands up in the air to emphasize his irritation, before his arms settle against his chest—- crossed, fingers curling just above his elbows.  “you always do this instead of just trying to explain in a different way,”  he pauses then, brows furrowing.  “so *please,* just tell me.”
