Not sure if that helped. I've never seen x-men, only heard of it. Shape shifters are always really cool. Hmmmm....I'm sure there's more out there. 

Elements are always popular. Don't use fire unless you can do a totally new take on it. Gift of tounges? Not sure if that even counts as an ability. Somebody who can increases their senses for a certain amount of time. Oh, there's a name for this one but I can't remember it, but it's somebody who can create images out of thin air. Magnetism, but instead of objects being attracted it's people. somebody who can see things before they happen.  

Lol,  sorry I took forever but my computer crashed, using my phone for this.  I already got a plot for the story and one the main characters already has shadow manipulation(modeled after gaaras ability from naruto. Its a story i modeled after my boarding school with native african names and stuff. I just need a lot of unique abilities that havent been completely raped by xmen or tv shows. And yeah xmen type mutants, not misshapen mutants@KaitofScottland 

Ooo, or maybe they kill somebody else and then go insane because they feel guilty. Now there's a plot for you, a murder in a school of mutants. hmmm...maybe have the person who has abilities in darkness or is new or violent be framed for the murder and then given some time to try and prove themselves innocent. So they realize it's this really popular smart kid(is that possible in a school of mutants?) and they have no solid evidence, so one them is bait while the other tries to catch the person in the act of hurting somebody. And then one of them is dying and..whoah, sory, I just realized how long this is. I'll shut up now! XD

Mutants....Ok, are we talking about mixed genes (Animal/human genes), or mutations in the form of unusual skills? If it's skills, go with darker stuff. You always hear about skills in fire or other elements. Maybe have darkness as an element and it covers shadows, death, dark things in general. Maybe there hasn't been someone like that in a while and the people who are like that die young because they go insane, or they feel guilty; maybe something like that. I hope this helps!

making a story about  a school for mutants located on some far of island on the coast of the Western Sahara. I want to use a lot of abilities that aren't cliched. I also need advice on how to stay focused on writing in comparision to other things
