“ I’m curious . . . did you ever have family , or even know them ? I have to say , you’re certainly intriguing — and a bit of a mystery. ”

[@caritonis] / Nooo.. </3

It was an answer Ivana had expected — after all , even beings of great power usually had some kind of origin , though not all were born of lineage. Many of the deities she’d faced were created to serve rather than born at all. Ivana herself , powerful in her own right , had come into the world as a demigod . . . yet with the strength to challenge gods if needed.

She leaned forward over the table , elbows planted , arms folding as her icy gaze stayed fixed on the kitsune. “ No need to get so hostile — it was just a simple question , ” she replied to his teasing , rolling her eyes. She never quite understood why he carried so much anger; even the smallest kindness seemed enough to set him off. “ Ah , so you’re a typical creation , ” she added with a soft chuckle. “ It’s almost boring how common that story is. Most entities aren’t born at all — though I have met a few who were. It’s rare. ”

After a brief pause , she lifted a hand to rest her chin in her palm. “ You’ve only ever seen the world at its ugliest , ” she said calmly. “ Not every human is evil or bloodthirsty. Some are just trying to survive in a world that’s far too cruel for them. Don’t let the rotten ones blind you to the good — you just have to look harder. ”

“you think someone of my power can be birthed?” he gave a humourless laugh, meant only to tease her. he didn’t mind— rarely ever did, specially in talking of the meaningless bits of his past. it had been centuries since he began to roam timelessly, and often he had to piece together his own history because of how long he’d lived.

“no,” he then said. he should have left it at that— simple and easy. but renelm continued, “i was not born. i was created as a manifestation of corrupted humanity. if you want to save any of that— take a good look at what the very people you wish to serve have created. humans do nothing good.”

"you carry the age of heavens…

          your fire lingers like warmth

          —who are you, young man?"

Sylvia hummed thoughtfully, then—without asking permission—reached out and poked one of his tails.
Not hard. Just enough to test resistance. And heat.
“Hm” she said immediately. “Solid. Warm. Not an illusion.”
She withdrew her finger, inspecting it as if half-expecting ash. When none appeared, she looked up at him again, eyes bright with naked curiosity.
“You see, that’s the thing” she continued, utterly unfazed by the fire or the danger. “If you were only a story, you’d react the way stories do. Dramatically. With thunder. Or divine punishment.”
She poked him again. Slightly firmer this time.
“But you flinch like something alive.”
A pleased little smile curved her lips. “So yes, it matters. Not for satisfaction—verification. Myths rot when no one checks them.”
She circled him slowly, tails flickering in her peripheral vision. “Fire burns, truths bite, legends exaggerate. I wanted to know which part you were.”
She stopped in front of him, hands clasped behind her back. “Conclusion so far?” Sylvia said lightly. “Real enough to be annoyed. Which is usually the best proof.”

“ Bland ? Hardly. These days , folk would gladly see me dead , so I wouldn’t name myself such , ” she said coolly. “ You’re a difficult one to stand beside , aren’t you ? I almost pity any soul who lingers in your company for too long. Still , I pray the nine see fit to mend whatever corruption weighs upon your spirit. ”

She stepped aside , lips pursed faintly. “ Now then . . . who might you be ? ”
