Dr. David Jang is the founder of Olivet University and has dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and advancing the mission of the Kingdom of God. From the earliest days of his ministry, he focused on reaching those in difficult and restricted areas, sometimes traveling on foot and later utilizing digital media to share the message more widely. His vision for Olivet University was to create a place where disciples and leaders could be trained to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) with commitment and perseverance.

David Jang was born in 1949 and pursued theological and academic studies with determination. David earned a Bachelor of Theology and a Master of Divinity from Hanshin University. He then went on to complete a Master of Arts in Communications at Yonsei University and later received a Ph.D. in Public Administration of Social Welfare at Dankook University. His path was guided by an American missionary who played a significant role in mission strategy, as well as a Korean church historian and missionary who contributed to the establishment of Olivet University Korea.

In 2004, he founded Olivet University in a modest basement in San Francisco, selecting the city for its diverse population. What began as a theological seminary quickly expanded into schools of music, journalism, art and design, and technology, later adding programs in business and language education. In 2005, the school relocated to the former UC Berkeley Downtown Extension Campus, which offered facilities well-suited to its mission. By 2009, the university was accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education. He later became International President, extending the organization's global reach and also serving on the North American Council of the World Evangelical Alliance.
