@Countybelle Exactly, I would imagine it would be tough on a single person, but still manageable. Here families are usually of at least 5 members (excluding westerns) which means even when the cost for general necessities are more than enough, sometimes it's even worse since a 5-members family would require houses with three bedrooms at least, most of the time, which means more rent.

I kind of relate to that with my own grandfather, but he lives with my uncle in another Emirate, and when my uncle and his family aren't able to take care of him for a while other family members take care of him. And I do see him bored at times, so I try to shift the mood a little and joke around with him.

It's a good thing that there are people who are willing to take care of your grandfather. Some people are too stuck up to give in to others' needs.

@Countybelle True, but keep in mind that those free services are only for locals (which I'm not) since there aren't many locals to begin with. Expats have to pay for all of these unless their jobs offer to pay for accommodation, healthcare, and/or education. Which is understandable considering if theh offered these things for everyone, the country would be overpopulated just for that reason alone, and the UAE is a pretty small country.

@Countybelle Same here with History and Psycholigy.

I can understand for the ones whose parents treated them badly. But I've honestly seen people, from here and other places, who don't return the same care they have received from their parents and just throw them into elderly homes. And that honestly makes me sick.

That's a good thing you are planning to take care of your parents, it's pretty common for the moving places to take care of parents.

@Countybelle It is high. The ones who expect this kind of salary are usually locals, who used to mostly have higher salaries than others, but now locals' salaries ha e been reduced as they have pretty much everything for free, such as each family getting a free land, free public education, and free public health. The government does this because out of about nine million people in the country, only one million are locals. Other citizens' salaries are gradually growing.
