Hello, I'm Erin!
I've mastered the art of being disabled and fabulous while simultaneously using a walker and occasionally a wheelchair. I also write for The Mighty, a writing platform for people with disabilities, where our voices and stories can be heard in a big way! Check it out!
We need diverse literature. Every story I have seen on Wattpad about disabilities has the same narrative. "A special girl with special gifts struggling through life with Cerebral Palsy." With the creation of shows like "Special" on Netflix and "Speechless," that dialogue is beginning to change. There are new, fresh, innovative stories about disabled lives waiting to be told. Not every disabled person life is like the "Miracle worker," and that be should be celebrated. There's pride, struggle, romance, taboo, etc. all interconnected in a disabled narrative. Let's celebrate differences, but not in a way that elicits pity, but creates meaning human connection and understanding. That is hope with this YA novel.
