Hi all! I've decided to take down Kiss of the Dragonfly and the two other novel drafts I have on Wattpad. I first posted Dragonfly back in 2019 to get feedback from readers rather than fellow writers. And I did! For all those readers who took the time to leave over a thousand comments and critiques, including a few full story critiques -- thank you. Your comments helped improve the story.

          	But Wattpad has gradually cut social features and focussed more on paywall and ads. People read, but they don't interact as much as before. And that means the site isn't as much fun for me. Anyway, Dragonfly has changed a lot since I first posted it (improved, I hope!). But this isn't the last of Petra. I mean to publish the revised novel -- and its sequels -- in a more serious way, if I can. Best wishes to all you helpful readers and writers!

@Angresht Thank you very much! I really appreciate the warm words. KotD is not published or posted anywhere else. I intend to seek a traditional publisher, but that will take work and patience - especially now. Publishers over-bought YA fiction during Covid, so there isn't much demand. Adult fiction is doing better.

          	  Anyway, traditional agents and publishers don't like to see draft of a work posted online, even on a workshopping site; that's one reason I took it down from WP. The other, as I mentioned, is that WP isn't as good a venue for feedback as it once was. To test-drive future works, perhaps I'll try another online serialization site. Some people have mentioned Royal Road.

What a terrible news for me! I love your storries, especially Kiss of the dragonfly!
          	  How will I find you and your stories again? Do you have any profile somewhere else? Or will your books available physically in bookstore? You can send it per private message, if it is not supposed be public.
          	  I wish you good luck in your future goals...

I come back from a year long hiatus and now you've taken down your stuff too Wattpad needs to get their shit together. I barely use it now anymore either. I've been a reader of your stuff since early highschool and I am now twenty. If you ever decided to post on Kindle or Kindle Unlimited I'll be the first to buy your book :))

No AI’s allowed! Today I got a funny message from CritiqueCircle, which, as you’ll guess from the name, is a site where authors and aspiring authors critique each other’s work. A member used ChatGPT to write critiques of other members’ works, prompting the site to ban AIs on pain of expulsion. Who knows how many ChatGPT / GPT4 fanfics are already posted on Wattpad. (Hint: at least 144 tag themselves with ‘chatgpt’, but I bet there are a lot more that don’t). What do you think about reading one — especially of the ‘author’ doesn’t mention it’s AI-generated? Would you think it fair to use such tech to post a story? Interesting times! Here’s my own fun experiment: https://calmlyunreasonable.com/blog/artificial-space-pirates/

@gilharriss I don't think so-called AI belongs in the arts. How can anyone feel proud of the product it generates? It's like using a Star Trek replicator to make a gourmet meal and then taking credit for it and calling yourself a chef. No.

            These programs are incapable of originality or innovation. They perpetuate echo chambers.

            I don't read rehashes or retellings or fanfic, and I won't knowingly read AI-generated work, either. Because it's too derivative for my tastes. I really like newness. That's what I do.

@gilharriss
            Ots in writing art must now movies. Colleges have problems with students using it for essays.
            To me all forms are cheating

Hi are you going to be writing the second book of clansmark?

gilharriss

@sherbert1990 - Hi there, thanks for asking! Yes, the second book in the Clanmarks series is in progress. You'll find the first chapter at the end of Kiss of the Dragonfly. But I have no idea when it will be finished - too many projects on the go at the same time :/

Happy Thanksgiving to all in the US! To celebrate, I've posted a new chapter of Frost Angel, an AI's dark imagining of an election cycle gone sideways; a story of a high-tech struggle for a nation's soul as closely balanced as the US Congress. Enjoy the holiday!
