controversial opinion: rooting for the bad guy isn’t uncommon. it’s not weird for you to root for the “bad guy.” most people feel inclined to like to protagonist of the story because it’s all about them. many people after learning about the mc will want other personalities in the story and if a #edgy #sadbackstory villain comes in, it’s no wonder some may like the other more.

without the “villain” there’d be no story, no conflict, no problems. and it would just be a calming story. which i personally enjoy, but most read for action.

let’s say the “villain” was the mc. they did crimes, was a rude person, and just horrible over all. but- they have a sad backstory backing everything up.

yet the “antagonist” was a cheerful, happy person who somehow opposed the “mc” in this situation. y’all would be like

“omg they’re so cute, how could you hate them? unpopular opinion, i like them more than the mc.”

and i know a few people are like “nah, i like dark characters.” shut up.

you like the villain? go ahead, but it’s not controversial to do so. as a reader and writer, it’s weird to see people think liking antagonists is so different. it’s pretty basic psychology and writing.

thank you for coming to my ted talk, where i post on my conversation board instead of posting chapters!

@glossyego sometimes we relate to the villain not because the protagonist is constantly pushing towards an end goal and had to be optimistic about it. the villain had end goal too but it usually doesn't work, which related more to reality.
