“ i was abroad for a while ” she said with a slight shrug before raising an eyebrow “ you don’t seem particularly concerned at the idea of me being dead ? ”

" come sit , have a drink with me — you look like you could use one. "

[ a slow, nonchalant shrug follows her words, his lips flattening into a thin, unreadable line before he lifts his glass again. a quiet, dry chuckle escapes him as he swirls the liquid inside the glass, watching the amber light catch the rim. ] " insulting ? perhaps. but accuracy rarely cares about manners — and besides, i'm the one who asked you for a drink with me " [ he takes a deliberate sip, his dark, calculating eyes never leaving hers as he leans back. ] " as for explaining... let's just say my line of work involves cleaning up other people's permanent mistakes. tonight, those mistakes were particularly loud, messy, and persistent. sitting here with you is simply the more civilized alternative to adding a few more names to my list. " [ a faint, sharp smirk touches the corner of his mouth as he tilts his head slightly toward her. ]

“ you’re aware that comment is insulting right ? ” she said , raising an eyebrow as she received her glass of wine. she wasn’t sure if he was being purposefully obtuse but she doubted it , knowing him it was much more likely that he just hadn’t thought that far. she took a sip of her wine, leaning back in her seat “ care to explain ? surprisingly i’m a good listener ” she shrugged because often she didn’t care enough to interject and interrupt a conversation. she was content to let people speak , she always learnt far more that way.

[ a faint twitch touches the corner of his lips as he watches her take a seat, the ghost of a smirk settling on his face as he takes a slow sip from his glass. he tilts his glass slightly in her direction, his gaze steady on hers. ] “ you just look like you’ve had a long night, ” [ he says in that calm, measured tone. ] “ and as for me ? let’s just say sitting down for a drink is a hell of a lot easier than dealing with everything waiting outside those doors tonight. figured I’d take the quieter option. ”

she only pauses for what is seen as half a second “ i don’t need your money , i need your information ” she said calmly , an indication that it had never been about cash. she had plenty of that. she held up a small photo “ you were with this man three days ago. where is he ? ” she asked

[ he’s wholly unbothered by the stare and casts an almost jaded glance at her. just business after all. the specification of their circumstances, needless and nagging, only adds to his long pause. her effort, or feigned lightheartedness, doesn’t go unnoticed. what was the point if it held no weight.. ] cash or card.

[ A tight, forced exhale escaped his nose as the shoulder joint snapped back, his jaw flexing against the sudden heat in his arm. He didn't pull away as she looped the curtain sling around him, though his dark gaze tracked her movements closely. Grunting, he pushed himself off the floor, adjusted to his full height, and fell right into step beside her. ] " glad we can agree on something then — but don't worry, I can still use a blade, " [ he rasped, testing the grip in his fingers before casting a sharp glance toward the exit. ] " If they're on my trail, they're walking into a slaughter. “ at least we can agree on one thing , this is a waste of time ” she agreed easily. she wasn’t in the habit of putting effort in to things this trivial but she often got a return on her investment when it came to him. it was for that reason that she tolerated him most days. she didn’t hesitate or even flinch at the sickening sound as she swiftly reset his bone correctly. being cautious and careful would’ve only prolonged his pain. she glanced around the room more a brief moment before taking a dagger from his sheath and cutting a long strip from the curtains and fashioning it into a makeshift sling. “ get up. let’s move ” she said as she stood , not having the time to coddle him and be overly nice. it was only a matter of time before his pursuers found him again.

[ A sharp intake of breath hissed through his gritted teeth as her hands positioned against his shoulder, his jaw clenching tight to lock down any sound before it could slip out. He didn't flinch away, though the dark, sharp gaze he shot her was laced with a mix of irritation and reluctant tolerance. ] " I don't scream, " [ he muttered under his breath, his voice low and raspy against the quiet air. As the blunt pressure built in his joint, a faint twitch at the corner of his lips betrayed his strain, his body bracing solid for the crack of the bone setting back into place. ] " And you're wasting your time staying... but do what you have to do, fast.
