[ He leaned over the green felt, fingers brushing the edge of the cards with a precision that spoke of years spent calculating odds. His eyes, sharp and unyielding, flicked toward her for just a heartbeat—measuring, weighing, daring her to read him. The faintest smirk tugged at his lips as the chips stacked higher in front of him. ] " i think i will win this " [ Every move, every bet, was a game, and he played it like he owned the stakes… and maybe, in some quiet, dangerous way, he did. ]

[ His lips curl into a thin, ghost of a smile—not one of warmth, but of a predator recognizing a challenge. The sound of her cigarette burning is the only thing interrupting the silence between them. He doesn't rush; he savors the way she holds her ground. ] " Fun, " [ he echoes, the word tasting like ash on his tongue. ] " A dangerous way to spend a life, Evangeline. Most people mistake thrill for lack of fear, but I can see it behind your eyes—the steady pulse of someone who knows exactly how close they are to the edge. " [ He slowly turns his own cards over, revealing a hand that shouldn't be possible, his gaze never leaving hers even as he reveals his cards. He leans back, the shadow receding just enough to let the harsh overhead light catch the sharp, dangerous set of his jaw. ] " I don't fold, " [ he says, his voice dropping to a low, velvet rasp. ] " And I certainly don't play for fun. Let's see if your luck is as sharp as you think it is. "

“ i don’t play for the outcome , i play for the fun ” she said casually as she took another drag of her cigarette looking at the five cards she was holding. poker had always been her favourite game , there used to be a time where she worked the tables before she became an owner. it had always been where she got her highest payouts because most people just could not read her. to this day there were very few people who actually could. looking at her cards a slight smile curled at her lips , dark eyes filled with a vague amusement. she hadn’t done this in a while so the thrill went straight down her spine. money made the world go round and god did she love making it. before revealing her hand her gaze turned to him , observing his features. she tilted her chin towards him in a casual gesture “ go on then… your turn. show your hand lucian …. unless you’d prefer to fold ” she said her words flat despite the almost taunting nature of them. perfectly manicured hands holding up her cards , hidden from his view.

[ He doesn’t break eye contact, the distance between them feeling suddenly nonexistent despite the width of the table. He leans in, resting his elbows on the green felt, his shadow falling over her cards. The air between them is thick, charged with the kind of tension that usually precedes a killing blow. ] " All in, " [ He repeats the words softly, the sound barely carrying past the rim of her glass, yet it holds the weight of a death sentence. His eyes drift from hers down to the pile of chips, then back up to her face, searching for a single tremor of hesitation that he knows he won’t find. ] " You play with a reckless disregard for the outcome, Evangeline. It’s... intoxicating. " [ He reaches out, not to touch the cards, but to deliberately drag his own stack of chips forward with a slow, grinding sound against the felt, bringing them within inches of her own. He keeps his gaze locked on hers, his expression a mask of calm, cold interest. ] " Let’s see if your luck can outrun my blade. "

“ if we’re being honest you’d probably benefit from having a personal assistant… look around lucian there’s nothing precise about this ” she said vaguely gesturing to the piles that she was continuing to sort despite all her complaining. leaving things like this be was just something she wasn’t capable of doing. it bothered her like an itch she couldn’t quite scratch “ you better start actually trying … i’m going to come and check in like a month or two ” she said her brows furrowing as she looked at a piece of paper that was simply gibberish

[ Lucian straightened his back, a faint, dry smirk playing on his lips as he looked at the mess she expected him to fix. He gave a nonchalant shrug, the metal of his gear clicking softly with the movement. ] " You're confusing an assassin with a personal assistant. My reputation is built on silence and precision, not... alphabetizing. " [ He listened as she chided him about not ending up in this predicament again, his expression softening just a fraction. He reached up, rubbing the back of his head with a rare, sheepish tell of hesitation. ] " But fine. I’ll... try " [ He tucked the document into his vest, his eyes glinting with a mix of amusement and dark focus. ]

“ what reputation ? ” she said shaking her head slightly. “ you still have to organise the rest of this , you might as well since you’ve already started. ” she said her tone somewhat chiding as she noticed his attention immediately shifted from the task the moment he found what he needed “ you don’t want to end up in this predicament again so just clean up ok ? ” she said “ separate everything into categories , label them and then just put everything into filing cabinets ” she told him although she doubted he would heed her words.
