⠀⠀⠀    the sound of her voice echoed through the ruined valley of the cave, melodramatic and hollow. a sound caught between his teeth was swallowed at once as he pushed himself to his feet. one hand stayed sooted behind his back around the dagger, while he lifted his right in a small gesture of surrender, stepping into view at the mouth of the cave.
