My previous writing experience has been in non-fiction.  As an educator with a master's degree from San Diego State, I have done extensive writing as part of my work.  I also co-authored an article in the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education.  But deciding to write Blue Belt, a novel, grew out of my original love for writing, combined with the passion I had for my own experiences when training in karate in the late 90s.
