          Luka is alone in the world for the most part. His mother is constantly away on 'business' and when his father is home he is emotionally abusive constantly telling his son how much he hates him, how much no one cares about him, and how he wishes Luka was dead. To the world Luka is boring and a bit on the dumb side, but Luka is keeping secrets from everyone. He never shows who he really is to his parents or his classmates. When he meets his werewolf mate, Matteo, everything in his life spins out of control and his father gleefully reminds Luka that Matteo will reject him once he finds out what Luka truly is.
          
          At first Luka seems like a snarky teenager who acts in whatever way he wishes without worry for the thoughts of what others think or the consequences of his actions, but in reality Luka is doing whatever it takes to survive his environment for as long as he can in hopes of escaping including pretending to be someone he is not. If he can't last long enough to graduate and leave home his back-up plan is to end his own life. Once Matteo appears everything changes and not always for the better.
          
          There were many twists and turns in this story right up until the end involving not only himself, but his family as well. It was a very sad story and I found myself feeling very emotional over Luka and his circumstances. While Matteo is essentially the character you dislike the most for hurting Luka so badly you eventually realize just how sorry he is for his actions. I didn’t dislike Luka's father at all... I hated him with an absolute passion and thought he deserved a gruesome ending. I added this story to my absolute favorites list because I loved Luka and Matteo so much.
          
          Triggers: Emotional Abuse By A Parent, Cutting, Severe Depression, Suicidal Thoughts, Attempted Suicide
