I liked Anora. I really like movies that leave me in a room to think about what just happened. Why did she do it with Igor? Why was she against kissing? What was the sudden break down?
Also the acting was great. Calling it dramatic acting is a praise. That's what the actress had to do maybe. Act insane. Even would go fvcking insane after leaving a job like that and dreaming about riches, getting married to a brat, dehumanized and exploited. I love how smoothly all the actors act. The random conversations, their scenes in the car or a café. It was funny and pretty natural to me. The frustration in them looked so real.
It was seriously a good movie. Anyone calling it trash just pissed with the first 60 minutes of the movie full of s** scenes. People are so fixated about escorts and s** that they forget the whole point. I think it was funny, dramatic and also a message(?) From what I got was EXPLOITATION and DEHUMANIZATION. There was a gradual emotional roller coaster. First 60 minutes I'd think, it's maybe fairy-tail-ish. An escort living as a gf of a rich lad for a week then they get married in vegas, she leaves the job, him getting the greencard. Then they talk lightly about meeting parents, then Ivan asks her to run away with him and then after those 60 minutes, he runs away alone. Then the chaotic search. Ivan's family lands in America and you just know how shit of all that was. What a long day it was for Anora. In fact people who call it trash are the same as Ivan's family I'd say.
