I just wanted to say how much I’ve been enjoying this story. I love your version of Ralph. He feels like Ralph, flaws and all, instead of a watered-down fanfiction version of him.
I think what I love most, though, is Sloane. She feels like her own person and not just someone who exists for Ralph. I really like that she doesn’t let him get away with his bullshit. She cares about him, but she’s also willing to tell him when he’s wrong and remind him that he’s not okay and that he needs to do better.
A lot of stories either make Ralph completely toxic or completely redeemed, but you’ve found a balance that feels real. They both have their issues, and their relationship can be messy, but that’s part of what makes them so interesting to read. It feels like they’re actually growing instead of magically fixing each other.
Honestly, Sloane fits into the story so naturally that it’s hard to remember she isn’t a canon character. I get excited every time there’s a new chapter.
oh my gosh, thank u for this message!! this is so so nice! <3 and i really agree with rafe being either wayyy too toxic, or completely just… not himself in fanfics. it’s a fine line, but i’m so glad u feel that i found a sweet spot! and it’s always been v important to me that sloane’s her own person with her own experiences and plot and development outside of rafe! it not only makes the story more enjoyable, but it makes it more fun to write as well. thank u so so much!!
