A lot of people say to "write what you know." I think it is far too limiting to think that way. If I stuck to what I knew, and wrote only from the perspective of privilege, I would never write anything subversive. I would never dream of sharing the one story that I'm building on this throwaway account.
My advice? Write what you don't know. I think it would make people more empathetic.
