‘The Gardener at Winthorp Hall’ didn’t qualify for round two of the ONC2021. 
          
          That’s ... I’m not sure. Having mixed feelings about this. I had a hunch, don’t ask me why, but I’m not entirely surprised.
          
          In a way it’s a relief, because I could feel the story growing out of the novella format from under my fingers and I was stressing about how I’d reign it back in to make the deadline and meet the requirements. Now I don’t have to worry about that anymore and can complete the story the way I want to write it. 
          
          Still, it’s not the best feeling seeing all those names up there and not mine. Makes me once again doubt my abilities and the potential of this story. 
          
          But doubt is such a big part of being a writer. This feeling is not new. So ... bruised ego aside, I’m just gonna write a little today, because that’s what I do ‍♀️

ONC panic breaking out  I have passed the 20k mark but only covered half the story. I feel like I’m being as concise as I can be, but I’ve got so much more to show you ... aaargh. Bad planning on my part. What I cooked up in my brain is more suited for a novel than a novella, I’m afraid. 
          
          I’m just gonna keep writing and try to wrap up all lose ends nicely before the deadline and within novella limits, then maybe rewrite it to novel-size later  There’s still so much there to unshovel. Is that a word? 
          
          How did I get from aiming for something simple and fun to this? ‍♀️
          
          How are you all doing? 

ONC News! Whoop whoop! The Gardener at Winthorp Hall made it to round two and got a  big, shiny 2K sticker on its cover. 
          
          I’m very happy and frantically writing (panicking about too many side plots and how to make them all fall into place OMG)
