Words are always spinning in my mind - like a puzzle, I am constantly lacing them together. Characters have always lived in my head, at first whispering and then full-out screaming to be released. As their stories ooze out, through my fingertips, they finally find their destination as black ink on a white page... proof of their existence. Many naysayers consider writing as a hobby. This may be somewhat true, but I also consider this a life's purpose... I am a scribe, a wordwhisperer, a wordsmith, and ink-slinger. I feel a responsibility to be a storyteller. To release once captive tales into the world. My writing tends to lean towards the light psychological thriller realm, like modern day Twilight Zone type stories.
My day job is being a preschool teacher three days a week. It is my ultimate goal to one day write full-time, publishing stories and poetry as well as being a freelance writer mainly with magazines and journals.
When I'm not busy writing and wrangling kiddos, I enjoy cooking, playing board games, listening to music from the 60's and 70's, and watching school sports. In addition to writing, my other creative endeavors include painting (mostly portraits) and surreal analog collages. I have been a life-long library dweller. My favorite books to read are psychological thrillers, mysteries, ghost stories, and spy tales.
I am an Indie Author. My short story collection, The Ones That Live In My Head is available through Amazon in both paperback and e-book formats. I have recently joined Goodreads where I will have a small blog. You can also find me micro-blogging on Instagram @melaniejwalker_author
