i’m in no way trying to undermine what’s happening ukraine. i’m aware that the situation is terrible enough that people have to flee their homes, but it’s now that wattpad decides to help refugees out with paid stories and coins? when the same thing happens somewhere else—syria, palestine, afghanistan—the entire world goes silent. you can’t stand up for one thing and stay silent about another, especially when it’s just history repeating itself.
ukraine needs support right now—i know that, and i’m glad that all the nations are doing their best to help, but it’s just that, imagine how hurt the people of these other places feel right now watching the entire world act to bring ukrainian refugees to safety, and yet last year in afghanistan when the taliban took over, people would have to literally grab onto the outside of planes in hopes of getting to safety.
it’s something i’ve said before, but i’m saying it again: you can’t pick and choose when to stand up and when to stay silent. if you’re going to stand up for one injustice, make sure you stand up for the other injustices too.
@mellifluousies Exactly. Palestine has been going through the same thing ever since last year and Yemen is also being targeted by air strikes. Syria has been and is still struggling with terrorist attacks. I'd also like to point out that social media will stop talking about the Russia-Ukraine war at some point just like the Palestine-Israel war. But, this war will be talked about longer bcs it directly affects many many countries, threatens the US, some believe will lead to WW3 and Putin's threat. This still doesn't justify picking when to stand up or stay silent.
