Random memorable experiences: 

Volunteering on an archaeological dig in Scotland. Indiana Jones it was not. Actually stupendously boring - like dusting the world's dirtiest room with an extra-soft toothbrush. 

Snorkeling above frantically chirping dolphins. I raced to keep up with them as I swam further and further from the boat. Then I saw that they were being pursued by a giant shark. I yank my face out of the water. Everyone else stands back on the boat shouting "shark! come back! come back!" longest swim of my life. still have all digits. (this ended up in a book I'm writing with some embellishment)
