jesse croft is a mute assassin taken in by a government established organization, NOSTALGIA ! no one knows whether he is selectively mute, if he’s ever attempted to speak, or if there’s an underlying medical condition. what they do know is, selectively speechless or not, jesse is a genius.
he’s specialized in hacking, tracking, spying, assassinating, engineering, inventing && so on. he even knows how to pilot a helicopter ! he’s incredibly smart, && though he’s mute, he communicates with his assassin team mates through sign language && morse code so he can be included.
you see, he’s not always felt that way; accepted && included by people. in fact, that’s exactly what his team isn’t aware of.
jesse was taken from a serious neglect && abuse situation. his parents were mysteriously never around, but he was too young to understand why. for most of his life, even as a small baby, jesse had to survive by the bare minimum. he was kept in a closet && ultimately out of reach from humans unless his mother was handing off a bottle or some disgusting form of food for him.
the environment was unsanitary && unlivable. because he was rarely in contact with humans as he grew, jesse didn’t hear much speaking. most of it, through the walls, was muffled && incoherent. therefore, jesse never learned to speak 90% of what kids his age would’ve know. he only ever learned the english language when he was taken from his parents && recruited to work for NOSTALGIA.
