So. My birthday is coming up in like, four months (we’ll pretend that’s close). I really, really want a septum piercing. I just have no idea how to ask my parents because I’m afraid they’d make it a really big deal. Does anyone have any tips whatsoever on how to bring it up?

Septum ring owner here. The one piece of advice I can offer is there are places that sell faux septum rings (magnetic) and you can always do that if it comes down to your parents saying no. That is a piercing that’s easier to get as an adult (certain age if younger with parental consent) so I’d check what the age minimum is in your country before going into that. If you meet that requirement you can bring it up but phrase it as “hypothetically you would like this piercing” I wasn’t allowed to get my face pierced until after I moved out so I can understand the impatience. So if the real one doesn’t work out, get yourself a faux piercing for the time being until you’re the age where you don’t need parental consent to get one yourself.

            I think I’m going to write it in her Christmas card!! I’m making them myself with different types of flowers and their meanings for every one of my friends and I’ll probably do like a rose or something for her because it’s elegant & graceful :) thank both of you!!
