Public Service Announcement!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but trying to support a Wattpad author by voting for chapters without reading them harms their stories.

The wattpad algorithm works by calculating time spent reading chapters. A skim and vote is artificial engagement that can lower a story's rank. It makes well-meaning support work against the author.

Authors supporting authors is great. Honestly, if you want to support another author, the best thing to do is follow them and offer words of encouragement, or take the time to actually read their stories. Vote, comment, provide feedback.

That all being said, please read stories you have a genuine interest in.
(Don't force yourself to mean mine if you're not into it)
Do not vote for stories you haven't read.
Do not expect other authors to return favors, reads, votes, or comments.

          	Read. Read. Read. And enjoy.

One of the best parts about being an author is supporting others knowing the difficulties and learning how to improve your own writing through reading stories from authors you support.

Thank you all for the support as a follower ❤️
I have a lot on my plate in every day life and finding time to read can be difficult, but when I have the time I will read and engage with novels I enjoy.

Wattpad is weird. This is the second time my story has over 1k views and every time, the next day it goes down to 900something. Last time that happened was a couple weeks ago.

Maybe all 100 views are mine? If so, why only move the views down after it hits 1k ? lol

          Does anyone else experience this?

Part of being a compulsive perfectionist is that things are never officially done.

I want to set down my work and move forward, but lack of engagement is a b****.
Is it my story? is it my writing? is it the visibility?

Whatever it may be, I've done another overhaul on my work.
I think people drop most in chapter 1 because of how many things are left unanswered, and that makes it confusing.

Chapter 1 now doesn't leave the girl in question. The girl is identified from the start, so one that one question isn't left to linger and gives following chapters some additional perspective.

Testing it. So we'll see how it goes.

Naming “the girl”

… for anyone who has read any part of my story, I’ve been thinking about the set up I have for my story so far.
Chapter 1 is vague and introduces the first POV as “The Girl”

Would it make this story more interesting if I don’t make her vague, and I name her from the start?

What if immediately you know this character is in almost every chapter of the act in other POVs?
It no longer makes her mysterious.
But may make this story more easy to follow.

          Thoughts?

Spoilers: She is very mission focused, and may have been unintentionally unavailable and distant from people she loves.
