My style of writing tends to be more detail oriented, and I prefer writing in third person limited. The POVs I write, I try to make it so the reader feels as though they are IN the character’s shoes, feeling their emotion and understanding why they’re doing what they are. That’s why sometimes I have very long chapters. I understand that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and it’s a very valid critique from many :) This is just my design, though, and it’s taken me years to write in a way I actually enjoy.
So keep on reading and reading, and do as many writing exercises as possible! It doesn’t have to be clean whatsoever! I have a notes app where I write ANY idea or even CONCEPT of an idea (whether it be a line of dialogue, an action sequence, a snippet I want to include somewhere) at the exact moment it comes into my brain. This helps me a LOT. it is messy, but useful.
Also, don’t spend hours rereading and editing a piece of a chapter/work if it’s upsetting you. Skip that scene and go to the next until you can write it out. Wait a few days and go back to it. My best pieces of writing are typically when i write it down sloppily and then come back after a week and polish it up!
Good luck!! And thank you so so much for reading!
