Why are students expected to learn all the subjects when teachers only teach a few?

A few hundred years ago, a man was hunched over a table, scribbling on an old yellow parched paper. The ravens cawed outside but he couldn't hear them as his ears were forever deaf. But in his head the magical melodies wee ringing out and flowing into the paper. After so many failed attempts, this would finally be the one melody he had in mind. Für Elise.
          
          As the wind howled outside he got the feeling that something was off. What was it? Probably nothing. He focused on the melodies and his pencil scribbling furiously. Choruses and melodies flowing out from his head into the magical piece of paper.
          
          Then a peculiar feeling descended upon him, one that he never ever experienced before. It was like a thousand knives shredding him but he was feeling cool healing at the same time. Then came a sort of immense fatigue and he blacked out.
