— hellooo a little clarification on my fanfic regarding y/n’s cultural background:
(1) yes— i’m aware that china and japan had a complicated and tense relationship during the taisho era. however, y/n’s chinese identity is a meaningful part of her character, and this story doesn’t focus on real-world political conflicts.
(2) the setting will stay historically accurate in many aspects (language, clothes, customs, etc), but i’m intentionally choosing not to follow historical politics or international relations— both past and present!
(3) why not? because being “politically accurate” would require rewriting the ENTIRE book and for the cast to treat y/n based on race or nationality— and that could unintentionally reinforce sinophobia and prejudice. that’s not what this story is about, and not what i want readers to experience.
(4) lastly, this fanfic was created to honor and celebrate chinese culture, and to give you a y/n who’s proud of her heritage. i don’t want to take that away just to mirror history’s flaws.
thank you so much for understanding!! your comfort while reading my fic is super important to meee!!! hugs and kisses (with consent) ♡
