hi humans!
let's talk about hygiene/body-care accommodations.
first thing: you don't need any sort of diagnosis to give yourself accommodations! if washing your hair in the sink makes it easier for you to have clean hair, do it. if using "kid's" toothpaste means that you can have clean teeth, use it. if you have to drink the most "unhealthy" sugary drink (not talking about alcohol here) you can think of in order to be able to take your medication consistently, drink it.
if it helps you and it makes your life easier, i don't care if you're not disabled or ill or tired or depressed "enough." let yourself find ways to make things easier.
doctors can be super helpful with this stuff too! i recently saw my dentist because i have 3 cavities and i decided to be honest with her about how my autism affects my ability to practice good oral hygiene. i have really good tooth genetics, so pretty much until this year when i turned 21, i was easily getting away with brushing my teeth only maybe once or twice a month. sometimes multiple months. until this year i had only had 3 other cavities in my life and i think 2 were on baby teeth so this hadn't really affected me, but obviously it's starting to catch up with me so i talked to my dentist about it and now i only brush either my top or bottom teeth every day and then floss once a week.
please be kind to yourselves and let you help yourselves. (and if you have any questions about these sorts of accommodations, ask away! i have lots of tips n tricks i've learned over the years)
