@kalelcoetzee awww...you are too, Honey - for writing as bravely and without reservation as you do...many would buckle under to society's taboos and conventions regarding graphic violence, blood, guts and hate. Somehow, when we are reading (what we believe to be) the nittiest of the grittiest of the bestselling authors out there, we fail to realize just how "cleaned up" and "made nice" the novels we finally encounter are...sure, we read and gobble up our fictional serial killers, pedophiles, rapists, sadists and murderers. Yet, it isn't until we encounter writing like yours that we realize the level of censorship (by author, editor, publishing house, etc) we have become victims of...no doubt, somewhere there is a list of a few "instant death to your mainstream writing career" devices that no wallet-respecting writer would ever stray from...ie "don't kill/torture the baby/grandma/family pet", "don't have your beloved characters behave in a way that is 'out of character' - in other words, human", don't kill off a cash cow (oops! I meant beloved character)"...certainly there are more of these huge "DONT'S", but I am guessing you understand only too well. Anyhow, thanks for being an eye-opener and writing it real...true monsters don't hold back and if one of your characters is a (or THE) monster, you shouldn't either.
