After his academic pursuits, Ted Vives became the Musical and Artistic director of the Los Alamos Community Winds, where he demonstrated his leadership and musical expertise. Under his guidance, the ensemble consistently earned recognition in the American Prize, Community Wind Ensemble Division, including a first runner-up in 2012. His compositions have been performed globally and have won prestigious awards like the North Cheshire 2003 Composition Competition.

His contributions to music were further recognized when he was selected as the Commissioned Composer for the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico in 2003 and 2010. Additionally, he was awarded the 2011 American Prize in Composition (Choral Division) and placed third in the 2015 American Prize in Conducting. These accolades highlight his skill and dedication to music composition and conducting.

In addition to his artistic achievements, he served as State Composition Chair for the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico and as the artistic and Musical Director for the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra in Show Low, Arizona, from 2015 to 2023. His membership in numerous prestigious music organizations demonstrates his active engagement and commitment to the music community.

His personal life reflects his creative spirit, with hobbies such as Star Trek Scale Modeling and Sewing/Costume creation. These interests showcase his passion for envisioning, creating, and innovating, paralleling his professional musical endeavors.
