@the-seelie-queen “Iroh’s gonna have the time of his life with her”

            · (◡ ‿ ◡ .) YEPPPPP!! You know it! Him and his future niece in law,. It’s definitely going to be so great when they meet. Expect a lot of tea sessions, lol.

And I’m so glad you mentioned Aang’s qualities because that’s exactly what I was going for. Kiri does share a couple qualities with Aang but the contrast is that she’s much older and wiser in character. I always felt like Aang need a mentor figure aside from Gyatso and someone he could also relate too with a similar philosophy. So Kiri basically plays into that role as she has immense knowledge on the Spirit World as a Spirit Warden. She helps him validate his pacifism when the rest of the world tells him it's a weakness. And because she views everyone simply as creatures of the earth, she completely strips away the 'Avatar' expectation and doesn’t treat Aang any differently just because he’s supposed to save the world.

@the-seelie-queen YESS, the worldbuilding is already really so good. I can see how people would have trouble writing a new tribe or culture, since ATLA is already so centered on the four core elements. That's why the Shenlin are still very much part of the Earth Kingdom as basically a sub element, while still having their own distinct culture because of how isolated they were from the rest of the world. It would be nice to see more sub tribes/ cultures be created and explored. ATLA basically already canonically did this with the swampbenders being like a cousin tribe to the waterbenders.

And I am so happy that you're enjoying Kiri's character, because at first I really struggled with how I want to betray her because the Gaang basically already had such good character dynamics going on with all the classic tropes. Sokka was the smart/comedic one, Katara is the mature one, Aang is the youth of the group, Zuko is our little emo, Suki is the badass, and Toph is the tomboy of the group. So with all these dynamics in place, I was really struggling to figure out how I'm going to make Kiri character distinct. I don't know if I would call Kiri the
"eccentric one," but I very much based her off the trope. She's "weird" in a way that most people find her unconventional. She casually talks about decomposing bodies and venomous bugs with a bright smile on her face, she doesn’t understand sarcasm and has a literal mind because she’s only learned the Common Tongue from scrolls & she's not afraid of beasts or animals that are normally considered scary, so she's considered "weird." Very whimsical, if you will. Like a Luna Lovegood archetype. But her overall character is VERY much inspired by a Starfire. This is exactly why Hynden Walch is her voice actor. Her voice is so distinct, and it's very easy to imagine Kiri talking in the Starfire voice. Sorry if I'm rambling, Imao.

@LavenderSugarplum you're not rambling at all dw!! i love when people have put a bunch of thought into their ocs. and yeah, i struggle with a lot of atla fics because the oc feels like they're overlapping with a role that already exists in the gaang, but kiri brings something really new and fun!! she's got a bit of aang's whimsy but in a very different way. i also love that she's so kind and hopeful, ik iroh is gonna have the time of his life with her.

YES I WAS IMAGINING STARFIRE WHEN I STARTED READING HER DIALOGUE LMAOOO
