I felt a bit conflicted when posting new chapters, with everything going on, it felt a bit frivolous of me? I am not sure if this makes sense. I have been following and interacting with the protests on Twitter and the news, me sharing and donating (not much as I don't have much) felt short, so I decided that the reason I was learning so much, meant I didn't know enough. There is a FREE Yale class, called African American History: From Emancipation to the Present. I am almost done with the course, it has around 25 classes of 45-50 min, and it will open your eyes in an imaginable way. I understand the news and the protest even more now. I was always #blacklivesmatter, and I urge those confused on the term to have this free class or also just read some content available. There is a speech that Frederick Douglass gave in 1852 that talks about this in a beautifully written and spoken words.
I will leave you guys with a part of this speech, which shows this better than I could ever.
"Whether we turn to the declarations of the past, or to the professions of the present, the conduct of the nation seems equally hideous and revolting. America.is false to the past, false to the present, and solemnly binds herself to be false to the future. Standing with God and the crushed and bleeding slave on this occasion, I will, in the name of humanity which is outraged, in the name of liberty which is fettered, in the name of the constitution and the Bible which are disregarded and trampled upon, dare to call in question and to denounce, with all the emphasis I can command, everything that serves to perpetuate slavery Ñ the great sin and shame of America! "I will not equivocate; I will not excuse"; I will use the severest language I can command; and yet not one word shall escape me that any man, whose judgment is not blinded by prejudice, or who is not at heart a slaveholder, shall not confess to be right and just."
