it felt like they had been stuck in this meeting for /ever/ ... it was starting to get boring . perhaps normally riya would have paid more attention to what was being said in any other circumstance , considering they were always one to seek that validation that they were /good/ at their job . but considering the fact that kameko was also in the meeting and was just across from them wasn 't exactly the most help .
the two of them together caused ... a /lot/ of trouble for miguel , usually needing to be split up from missions otherwise they got sidetracked and went /totally/ off course from the original plan . honestly , when they were put together they were probably a constant headache for spiderman-2099 . probably why they didn 't get to work together too often anymore since the two got close ... well , unless he needed them away from spider society for whatever reason .
⠀⠀⠀albeit riya didn 't exactly complain about that ... as much as they wanted to please their boss , they couldn 't deny he wasn 't the most fun to be around .
they ran a hand through their hair , a huff of air blowing some of the strands out their face . they had totally drowned out the talking at this point , something about an anomaly ... .ᐣ they didn 't know . carmine hues drifted over to their best friend , looking at them before nudging their head over towards their boss — as if a way to silently exclaim " get a load of this guy .ᐟ "
⠀⠀⠀⠀the social butterfly reached into the backpack at their feet , grabbing ahold of the notepad they normally used for whatever lessons they were in at school and ripping a page out . the webslinger made sure they were out of view before they scribbled on the note with one of their pens , then they were quick to crumple up the paper .
another cautious glance before they threw the note over to kameko , hoping to get her attention with the written invitation .

and besides , it 's not like the two of them did this /often/ .ᐟ it was only a couple of times that they 'd ditch such meetings , and they wouldn 't be kicked out for such a /small/ reason as this . so really , what was the harm in having a little bit of fun here and there .ᐣ
⠀⠀⠀nothing , exactly .ᐟ the two of them save their universes and even other people 's universes for countless days on end .ᐟ they deserved a little fun , if riya said so themselves .
❝ tell me about it .ᐟ i don 't know why he thinks we need a debrief so often ... i mean , it 's not like we 're /novices/ .ᐟ ❞⠀⠀⠀they huffed as a complaint , swinging their backpack over their right shoulder . it was probably the one thing they 'd openly say they /detested/ about this whole " gotta save the world with your superhuman abilities .ᐟ " thing . i mean ... while they were considerably still kids ... they knew what they were doing .ᐟ considering they 've stopped ... how many now .ᐣ
⠀⠀⠀there was a silent sigh that fell through their lips before they shook their head , as if in an attempt to shake the thoughts out their own mind . riya 's gaze drifted back to the room they had just come from before it fell on kameko again , bright smile replacing the previous conflicted expression .
❝ no matter .ᐟ we 're out of that boring meeting now .ᐟ i highly doubt he 'll come looking for us anyways , we 're free to do whatever /we/ please .ᐟ ❞⠀⠀⠀⠀they declared , almost triumphantly ... as if they hadn 't just snuck out of a meeting and instead took on the whole fate of the universe .

honestly , perhaps riya would say it was even a bit /too/ easy to get themselves out of these meetings . maybe they were caught and nobody just ever said anything ... or maybe they really were just /amazing/ at avoiding getting caught . ( even with their /lack/ of stealth in these conditions ... )
it 's not like they were hurting anyone , no , they were actually the ones /saving/ people ... so it was justified that riya and kameko saved themselves from such a /boring/ lecture .ᐟ maybe the two were a little strange , perhaps the two of them were a little more ... weird than the rest of the spider-society , but were they supposed to apologize .ᐣ they were kids .ᐟ
and normally , the idea of not fitting in would crush riya into attempting to make friends with everybody in sight ... and perhaps if they didn 't have kameko , they would have fallen into their cycle again .
but they /did/ have them ... and she was the one who helped them realise that maybe it was /okay/ to do this sort of things together .
riya 's gaze is fixed on the room they just came from , almost /nervous/ about if their best friend would make it or not ... but it didn 't take long for their worried expression to turn to a cheeky grin .⠀⠀⠀⠀phase one of their plan complete .ᐟ onto their second phase of goin' somewhere /'fun/ .
⠀⠀⠀riya couldn 't help the small bit of laughter that erupted from their throat when they had caught up with them . there was something somewhat /freeing/ about doing something as small as sneaking out together ..
