@missfrenchgirly tbh i think as parasocial as many fandoms are, they can never be as scary as barbz and swifties... and with politicians i think it's far worse tbh. cause like come on what can the celeb really do to people who don't like them? but politicians can decide hmm let's make this group of people suffer just cause i don't like them.

@writtenbytali I think another reason why fans became so parasocial is bc our generation and the millennials were so used to celebs having a relationship w/ fans via social media. Twitter, as problamatic as it can be, was big for those kinds of interactions, espesially for Ariana's fans. It felt genuine bc it came from her and her alone, not her team. It made her relatable, reminding us that social media can be fun and not so performative. It was fans chance one and only (most likely) chance to talk to her. Maybe I am parasocial but not in the way that some of her fans are. One thing I don't do-and this applies to political figures as well-is idolize someone to the point where I'd justify their poor choices. Ik it's hard when someone you admire messes up, but they're flawed humans like the rest of us, and fame and popularity shouldn't excuse them from facing the consequences of their actions. We see idolization in the industry and in politics (MAINLY in America), and it's scary.
