I walk toward the main entrance of high school, and I see that you’re just as new as I am. I wave because I try to be friendly, and you seem a bit hesitant at first, if not reserved. But you smile, nonetheless, albeit weakly. We somehow start walking through the crowding hallway, and we chat on the way to our lockers. Really, it’s mostly me doing the talking, but that’s okay. I see that you’re warming up little by little. This gives me hope that I’m doing something right. Maybe this experience won’t be so bad after all. Maybe we can get to know each other better over coffee and become buddies. A whole school year awaits us, and it’s going to be an interesting journey. You never know what could happen, but we’re curious and willing to find out.
