Qiiesha stepped forward, chain wrapped twice around her fist, and got to the part she cared about. "Right. Before anyone else falls out of the sky. He's mine. Bought, collared, and I am two days from the money. If you've come to collect on him you can turn round and climb back through your hole."
          
          Macy looked down at Chrys. Chrys attempted a winning smile with a mouthful of red sand.
          
          "We're really not," Macy said.
          
          "Lovely."
          
          Macy racked her gun. “But we could be.” She promised darkly. 
          
          Sarah had gone very still, nose twitching twice. She looked at Qiiesha for a long moment. "You are a scorpion."
          
          "I am, sweetie."
          
          "That is fine." A pause. "I have killed many of those."
          
          Qiiesha's smile dimed slightly. Her tail curled like it was... Getting ready. The blonde girl managed to scary for a reason she couldn't place.
          
          "Smaller ones," Sarah added, “but I could be convinced to try my hand on the larger verity.” 
          
          Chrys got his knees under him, chains and all, and threw himself into a grovel that raised a small cloud. "Oh mighty travelers, who walk with the gods beyond the page, who speak to the comment section unafraid — "
          
          "We're teenagers," Macy said.
          
          "THE WORST KIND OF GOD."
          
          "Does your story end well?" Sarah asked.
          
          Chrys stopped mid-grovel. "...What?"
          
          "You know about Readers. So somebody is writing you." She tilted her head. "I am asking if it ends well."
          
          The canyon got quiet. Even Qiiesha didn't fill it.
          
          "...I don't know," Chrys said, and for one entire second he sounded like a man and not a punchline.
          
          "Good," Sarah said. "Neither do we. It is better that way."
          
          "That is NOT better —"
