“What do you mean, I am the debt?” I question dumbfounded.
“The answer is quite simple, honey” slurs Jacob “Your grandfather and my father were once great friends but your grandfather was malicious and just before he left to Texas, he stole all my father’s money. At that time our family was not wealthy but not poor either, we had a sufficient amount of money. Though your grandfather was poor but he was sly and managed to calculate that we wouldn’t have enough money to travel to Texas to get him back and even enough money in the future to have a comfortable living.”
He paused for a second letting that sink in before I felt his hot breath on me again.
“Though never underestimate the Lester family,” he whispered coarsely, “We have connections and my father was able to travel to Texas eventually and threaten your grandfather with a debt.”
“And what’s the debt?” I inquire.
“The debt is that the youngest child of the Omar family by New Years Day on 1999 is killed.”
Me.
