Mona Stawarski

Day of the journey

It's 4 am and I'm lying on the bed with cold sweat. It's kinda weird that I don't remember my dream but here I am awake and scared. Is it strange if I say I feel like I'm being watched? I don't feel safe in my room. I slowly got off the bed and turned on the lights to check every corner. After inspection when I felt satisfied, I lay back on the bed with all the lights on, and at some point, I drifted back to sleep.

"Is this all you're taking?" Lisa asked surprised.

"Yes. What's wrong? It's just for a weekend." I replied.

"Just take a few extra pairs for emergencies," She said.

"Lisa, we are just going for a business trip, not for a fashion show" I stated.

"Whatever. Don't tell me I didn't warn you." She said.

I rolled my eyes at her.

"Don't give me those eyes. Fine, I'm leaving. Just give me this--" She said picking one of my new dresses before shutting the door.

"LISA!" I yelled.

"Thank you, Sis" She yelled back.

Annoying little sister.

I quickly finished packing my suitcase and got downstairs.

"Mom, I'm leaving," I called out dragging my suitcase from the carpet.

I see my Mom coming from the kitchen. I was taken aback by surprise when she hugged squeezing the air out of me.

"Mom," I said trying to catch my breath.

She quickly pulled away hearing my unstable breathing.

"Mona, you seem so weak! Did you have your lunch? God knows what you'll do going there. Promise me you'll eat well. God is watching, Mona" Mom said sternly. But I can see that she blinked back her tears.

"Mom, don't worry I'll be fine, it's just for a weekend. You just took me by surprise. And yes mom I'll eat well, I promise" I said. She nodded with a sad smile.

Lisa came running downstairs.

" Passport?" She breathed.

"Check" I replied.

"wallet"

"Check" I replied.

"Visa"

"Check. Lisa-" I replied.

"Phone"

"Check" I replied.

"Charger"

"Check. Lisa stop!" I replied annoyed.

"Sunglasses"

"Okay, that's enough! I have everything. I think you plan on making me miss my flight," I said rudely.

"But there are 28 of them left in the list" She pouted.

I rolled my eyes at her.

Such a drama queen

"We are just making sure you aren't forgetting anything, Mona." Mom said falling for my little sister's horrible acting.

"Give me the list. I'll just check them in the cab. Happy?" I said snatching the list from Lisa's hand.

I see a notification on my phone indicating my ride has arrived.

Before getting into the cab I waved at my family.

"Wait!" I hear Lisa call out.
