It was just a summer fling...

That's what you told yourself as you saw Tsukishima Kei walk by with his new girlfriend.

You knew it was temporary but you ended up catching feelings. God, you were jealous. She was gorgeous...

Her name was Ishida Ayane (last-first). She was pretty popular, she got amazing grades, she was even good at sports. She had everything that you didn't.. including Tsukishima.

During the summer before your third year of high school, you and Tsukishima were together everyday. Whether it was at your house or his.

You considered him your best friend for a while.. until one day, the both of you were literally dying of boredom and he brought up the idea to have some fun in a different way. Well, we all know what that means.

The day he first kissed you was the day you accepted that you had feelings for him. You thought he felt the same— well it definitely seemed like it, but after school started he stopped talking to you. You regretted never actually confessing.

You glanced at the couple, sadly, one more time before turning and walking outside so that you could sit by yourself for lunch.

You heard footsteps coming from behind you but you ignored them and pulled your food out. Then you felt a tap on your shoulder and you flinched.

"Hey, L/n," a similar voice said as he walked around so you could see him, Yamaguchi. Your longtime friend.

"Oh, hi Yams, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with Tsukki," you smiled but it faded quickly when you mentioned him.

"Mm.. his little girlfriend doesn't want me around them, I guess. She's so insecure, like i'm his best friend, damn," he groaned and continued to complain about her.

"Yeah, that's not right," you said and looked off into the distance as he started talking again. You started imagining how you'd be with him again.

"L/n..? Hey, is everything alright," you snapped out of your zoned out state, "you've been acting off all day."

"Oh— um i'm fine, don't worry," you scratched the back of your neck and gave him an awkward smile.

"Hm.. sure. Well when you're comfortable to talk about the issue, let me know."

Your heart felt warm for a second. Yamaguchi really cared about you and you felt so grateful. Although, you probably wouldn't tell him what's going on..

You just nodded at his words and began to eat. There was some small talk but for the most part you ate in comfortable silence with him.

The final bell rung. It was finally time to go home. You never joined a club, so you just went straight home after school.

Your day was so draining. You had to see your first love with another girl and school in general just wore you out.

The walk home wasn't long, but it sure was awkward. You bumped into the bitch— pardon, Tsukishima's girlfriend.

Both of you walked in silence for the most part, but then she spoke.

"Hey, I saw you looking at me and Kei earlier. Did you need something?"

"Um.. no. I wasn't looking at you, I was just looking for someone and couldn't find them," you shrugged. She stopped walking.

"No no," she giggled, "you were clearly looking at us and I just want to say one thing. He's mine," her tone changed into a darker one and you just scoffed. She thought she was intimidating you.

"Whatever," you continued walking home and she also left.

You made it home and saw that you had a text from Yamaguchi.

You chuckled and put the phone down. You decided to change out of your school uniform and into something more comfortable. You settled for an oversized shirt and some sweatpants, nice and comfy.

You plopped down onto your bed and started up onto the ceiling.

Sadness took over you as you thought of them.

What makes her better than me? Why didn't he want me? Does he think i'm ugly? Does he hate me? What did I do wrong?

All of these thoughts ran through your head. Why wouldn't they go away?! You just wanted a moment of peace and quiet!

You groaned and turned over in bed, quickly falling asleep.

Your short nap didn't last long. You woke up to your phone ringing. Thinking it was your mom or something, you picked up without checking the contact name.

"Hello," you said with a groggy voice.

"Oh, did I wake you up? My bad.." you heard a familiar voice— Tsukishima?
