Hiya :D Wowow I actually didn't take forever to post the next part!! Ahah anyhoo, the whole ghost and spirit stuff in the tags of this story will start to make sense soon. Oh, this chapter has some triggering content. I promise none of it is severe, it's just mentions, but please be aware of them before reading.
TW/CW: Bruises, injuries, memory loss, very small character death implication at the end
Once again, none of these are major in the chapter, it's just like one or two words that kinda imply them, but I still wanted to put a trigger warning just in case.
"So." Bruce said. "What do you remember?" he looked up at them, patiently waiting for a response.
Kere frowned. "Uh well.... Nothing?" they said hesitantly. Bruce frowned as well. "Absolutely nothing? Not even small bits?" he asked. Kere shook their head. "Nope. All I remember was falling asleep in my bed. Then I woke up here...."
"Well what were you doing before?" he asked. Kere thought for a second. "I.... went to school.... I walked home.... Got home.... Did my homework... then went to bed before mom came home from her shift..." they said. "Just a normal typical day. The whole week was just, normal and typical actually... nothing new or special happened." They said.Bruce scribbled down some notes. "I see.... Well, if you do end up remembering anything unusual, and I do mean anything, let me know right away all right?" he said, to which Kere nodded. "Now for some basic questions that I probably should have asked you first. What's your full name, age, pronouns, and where do you live."
Kere smiled when Bruce mentioned pronouns. They thought it was nice and considerate of him to ask. "Kere Constance Lobelia, I'm 16, just turned 16 two weeks ago actually. My pronouns are they/them, and I live at 92 Cherise Lane in Bronx New York." Bruce nodded as he wrote down all that information too"Great, and you live with just your mom? Do you have her number so we can try and contact her?" He asked. Kere nodded. "Yup it's just me and her. And yeah I'll write it down for you.... Gosh she must be so worried- I hope she's not /too/ worried..." they took the notepad from Bruce and wrote down their mom's number. "Do you think we can call her now? Please? I just wanna make sure she knows im fine."
Bruce took the notepad back from them. "Of course. But maybe after we give you one last medical check, is that ok?" he asked. Kere nodded, anxious to call their mom as soon as possible, but they knew a quick checkup would probably not take too long. Bruce set down his notepad. "Alrighty then. Kere are you feeling any pain right now? If so where exactly and how much pain?"
Kere frowned again. "No pain at all actually." Bruce looked up. "Wait what? None at all?"
"uh, yeah none. Is that.... Bad?" they asked nervously. Bruce got up, walking closer to Kere and inspecting their head. "Yes, considering the height you fell from and the visible injuries on your head and arms, I'd say feeling no pain is a bad sign." Kere looked down at their arms, only now realizing they were covered in bruises and scratches. "Height? How far did I fall from?" They asked, brow furrowed in confusion. "We actually don't know- um I'll explain more later ok?" Bruce said, inspecting Kere's head.
Kere could feel themselves beginning to panic a little again, but they tried to stay calm. "Is there something wrong with me?" they asked, voice a little shakier then before. Bruce bit his lip. "We'll figure this out don't you worry, you'll be just fine. Now, do you feel this?" he asked, gently pressing down on the small cut on their head. "I can feel you touching my head but it dosen't hurt." They answered.
"Hmm...." Bruce walked back over to his equipment desk, shuffling through some papers and reading through them. This was not something he would be able to figure out right away, especially considering all their test results came back relatively normal. He'd need more time, and more reseacrh. Not wanting to alarm Kere any further though, he set down his notes and test results and picked up his phone. "Nevermind all this, we can worry about it later. Why don't' we give your mom a call." He said. Kere smiled and nodded. "That would be great." They said, reaching for the phone.Bruce handed it to them and Kere immedietly dialed their mom, pressing the phone against their ear as they waited for the call to go through.
Finally, a few seconds later, a faint "Hello?" was heard through the phone. Kere sighed in relief in hearing her mom's voice. "Mom! Mom, it's me, Kere!" they said. "I just wanted to let you know I was ok. I don't know what happened but somehow I ended up at-"
"Who is this?" There mom demanded, voice shaky, rough, and angry. Kere frowned. "Mom? Whats wrong? Mom it's me, Kere! Your kid!" voice shaky, and a bit alarmed.
Bruce who had been going through his papers again, turned when he heard the confusion and alarm in Kere's voice, wondering what had happened.
"This is a real cruel joke to play on a grieving mother. I don't know who you are, but don't you dare call back ever again!" their mom said angrily, hanging up. Kere's hands were shaking, their eyes wide in shock as they slowly lowered the phone, the phone tone still playing faintly. "G-greiving.... What is she talking about...."
Oop- short chapter because I wanted to end it in a cliffhanger- >:) sorry for the cliffhanger cbhjbschjd
But, I've already started writing the next part so hopefully it'll be out soon for you to find out what happened :D
