- Chapter Two -

2001

Stepping off the train, I noticed several differences between this school and my school back home. First difference being, I used a train to get here. I thought it rather endearing to use a common no-maj form of transportation to discreetly transfer a large number of children to a magical school. The only thing that's rather odd, is running through a wall to get to the platform. Honestly, it'd be less suspicious to absent-mindly walk through it, less attention that way. But who am I to judge? It works efficiently enough, best to just leave the matter be.

As instructed, I gathered my belongings and searched for a 'tall but miniature half-giant' who went by the name Rubeus Hagrid. Peculiar way to describe someone, but understandable as my eyes spotted him. His description, although bare minimum, suits the man. I carefully maneuver my way past the anxious children towards the miniature half-giant. Thankfully, I was wise enough to keep all my belongings in one suitcase and a small draw-string clutch. I was smart to use the Undetectable Extension Charm. It'd be far too hazardous and tedious to have several bags on me amidst this chaos. Finally, I reached the large man directing first years.

Gathering my confidence I asked, "Excuse me sir, but are you Rubeus Hagrid?"

Peering over his large beard, he locked his gaze with mine, "Well that I am!" he joyfully exclaimed in the same loud voice he used to direct the students. I sure do hope that isn't his talking voice. "Who's asking?" he inquired down at me.

Straightening myself, I took a calm breath and began to introduce myself, "Hello Mr. Hagrid-"

"Oh no, jus' call me Hagrid! No need for all that formality talk!" He interrupted with a pleasant laugh.

"I apologize". I stated quickly, and proceeded with my introduction, "I was requested by Headmistress, Minerva McGonagall, to find you. I am the Transfiguration Professor from Ilvermorny-"

Again, he cut me off. "Oh we've been expecting you!" He seemed to have spotted something since he began walking off somewhere.

"Well, yes I know Sir. I was owled about-" My confidence sputtered and, as I tried to regain it, he cut me off once more. This habit of his is beginning to annoy me, but I'm sure it's not intentional.

"Harry! Come here, I need yeh ter escort this yun' miss ter Headmistress McGonagall!" Hagrid called, gesturing towards myself as the man, Harry, came over.

Harry looked towards me, scanning me and, by the notion of his head giving a small nod, decided on something. After his quick once over, he turned back to Hagrid.

"Sure Hagrid!" He smiled at the large half-giant.

Walking away, Hagrid said, "Needin' ter get these first years on the boats, thanks Harry!"

Smiling, Harry waved a gentle dismissive hand towards Hagrid's retreating figure. Turning towards me he inclined his head towards a path and shoved his hands in his pants pockets. "Come along, we're going to be late."

I nodded and followed him. Casting a quick glance towards Hagrid, I looked back at Harry and blurted out, "Boats?"

At this, the man smiled, seemingly reminiscent, "Yeah, that's how all first year students enter Hogwarts. I suppose it gives everyone else time to settle in before they come".

"Ah" I nodded in understanding. I frowned in thought before something dawned on me. My eyes widened in mortification, I sputtered to the man besides me, "I'm so sorry! I didn't introduce myself!"
