It was a beautiful night in the downtown city shopping area. The air felt crisp and chilled, turning breaths of warm air into ghostly steam. Little Yami walked cheerfully down the pave path, while taking in the sights. He glanced at the faces of the happy people walking by all bundled up in their thick coats as they held hands with family and friends. All around the outside shopping center lights were shining like rainbow color stars that added to the festive air. Music played seasonal songs and the sweet smell tempted his senses.
One smell caught his attention and little Yami shook his chaperone's hand hopefully. "Uncle!" He spoke, as he pointed to a small stand ahead of them. "Chocolate please!"
Yami had asked Yugi to babysit Little Yami so that he and Y/n could wrapped the gifts they had bought and prepared the gifts from Santa. Yugi knew how pretty down town was at night during the Christmas season, so he brought Little Yami to see the lights and treat him to all the festive food. They also did some light shopping; a bottle of perfume for Y/n that Little Yami liked, and a new deck case from Yami that had the Dark Magician embossed in gold on the front.
"Hot chocolate sounds perfect right now." Yugi replied dolefully. He laughed as the small raccoon boy bounced on his feet. "Woah, careful now, we don't want the gift you pick of for Y/N to break."
"Mama Y/n", he corrected with a frown, making Yugi chuckle.
"Yes, but she's not my mother, so I call her Y/N."
Little Yami frown dropped and grinned happily as they walked to the stand. "My mama," the small child muttered to himself. Yugi was happy that the lost raccoon dog boy had found a nice home with Yami and Y/N. There were times when he felt guilty for being the one to create Little Yami and unintentionally abandoning him to fend for himself. Yugi took every opportunity given to him to make-up for harsh life Little Yami had to go through on his own.
At the stand, Yugi order a kid's coco cup, which came in a snowman shape mug and could be topped with whip cream or mini marshmallows. The lady at the stand commented on how cute Little Yami looked with his thick coat and fluffy ears popping out from under his red hat. "What a sweet looking child you have sir." Yugi blushed but didn't bother correcting the lady as she turned to Little Yami, asking "Have you been good this year? Wrote your letter already?"
Little Yami nodded happily and told her, "I want a red wagon!"
The woman chuckled and handed him the warm mug, saying, "I hope you get it. Did you know that Santa's reindeers are here visiting the children?" Little Yami's black eyes widen in awe at the news. "Just walk further down and you'll see them on the right."
"Thank you, and Merry Christmas." Yugi said as Little Yami yanked on his hand to go see the reindeer.
"Merry Christmas to you both." The lady replied as she waved them off.
Little Yami sipped happily at his drink as he thought about the reindeer. He liked spending time with Yugi, and had forgiven him for what happened long ago. Yugi was such a nice person that Little Yami wondered why he didn't have someone like Y/N living with him. Even his spirited uncle Joey had someone special and so did his uncle Honda, and aunt Anzu in New York. But maybe Santa will change that, Little Yami thought as he thought about his list.
He had nearly finished off his drink when the sounds of bells echo over the air. His tail shivered and straighten at the light and merry jingle of the bells. "Santa?" He asked with a startled tone.
