In another part of the globe, in the center of a city's downtown shopping district was a young blonde man trying to enjoy the festivities in a local bar. His honey brown eyes side glance to the clock hanging on the wall behind the bar. It was thirty minutes till midnight. Thirty minutes till the new year would be blasted in by the mounds of box fireworks that gathered by the door. He turned back to the girl that was busy laughing at a joke a nearby stranger was telling loudly for their part of the bar to hear. He didn't hear the punch line that sent the people around him in a up roar but he stilled smiled at the way the girl's face lit up as her laugh die down to chuckles. She glance up at him and placed a light kiss on his cheek. He blinked at her and asking, "What was that for?"

The girl shrugged as she put her head in her hand while she played with the rim of the glass holding her drink with the other. "Just felt like it. Got a problem with that Joey Wheeler?" He grinned at her and lean in close to steal a kiss from her when she stopped him by putting a finger to his lips. "Nice try hon, but you have friends to call remember?"

Joey turned to look at the clock then turned back say, "Fine, but don't go no where."

"Ha! And where am I gonna go? Just hurry up before midnight before these drunks set the street on fire." The blonde quickly pecked her on the cheek and stepped outside with his phone out in his hand. Just as he was about to dial a group call came in. "Hey guys! I was just about to call!"

"Yeah sure you were! I bet you forgot all about us with your hot girlfriend by your side!" Tristan's voice said teasingly.

"Hey Joey! Can you hear me alright!" Yugi's voice asked before Joey could snap at Tristan. "Yeah Yug, I can hear you just fine. Is Tea on the line?"

"Right here Joey! It's almost new year for you there right?"

"Yep, oh, happy new year Yugi and Tristan!"

"Thanks!" The two young man said together. Yugi then asked, "How much longer till its midnight for you Tea?"

"Oh its still a while for me Yugi. Later on I'm going to go out with some of the other girls to time square to watch the ball drop. How's Germany treating you Joey?"

A cold wind blew through the streets making the duelist pull the thick coat he had on tighter. "It's cold but the people are nice, and the dueling competition starts again tomorrow. Though with the way these people drink I'll be surprise if they'll be able to shuffle their deck right."

"Just don't get to cocky Joey." Yugi warned, his voice held a stern tone.

"And don't sleep in so late that you miss the whole thing." Tristan added.

"Good luck to you Joey and congrats on making it to the finals!"

Joey smiled broadly as he looked up at the sky. This was the third year he was away from home around the holidays. It wasn't anything that he planned on it just sort of happened that way. Tomorrow afternoon he would duel for the title of champion in the Europe New Years Day tournament and if he was lucky he would going home with more than just a trophy. Hearing his friends cheer him on like this made he think back when he was just starting out as a duelist. "Thanks guys and don't worry Yugi I've learned a lot being on my own. I call tomorrow to let you all know how it went..." Joey's hand fumbled with an item in his coat pocket and added, "I might also have some news to share but maybe not."

"Huh?" Tea said as Tristan commented that what he said made no sense, but Yugi merely answered, "Okay, Joey. We'll be here for you." Joey huffed as he smiled widen than saw that people were starting to shuffle outside the bar. "I got to go guys. I'll call again tomorrow."
