although you had only been recruited to join the fatui a mere several weeks back, you had already earned a place within their ranks as the twelfth fatui harbinger. those with common knowledge of the organization knew that the harbingers were the strongest among the fatui, and nobody in their right mind would ever dare to challenge them.

best of all, you loved the power which came with working alongside the fatui. your name had never failed to strike fear amongst the hearts of the inhabitants of teyvat. the scared reactions of the citizens of teyvat whenever they came across you that you so loved led you to thinking why you hadn't joined the fatui sooner. of course, the mora was nice, considering you hadn't suffered financially in too long, but the power was ultimately better.

"y/n?"

the sudden outburst gave you a jolt as you, completely lost in thought, forgot who was sitting right next to you.

"sorry, scaramouche. i guess i just got distracted." you laughed, turning your gaze to the navy-haired boy whom you had started to consider a friend not too long ago.

unbeknownst to any of the other harbingers, you and scaramouche had secretly formed an alliance of sorts during your first meeting with him. although both you and the balladeer chose to remain solidary, you truly enjoyed spending time with the boy, as the two of you had a great deal in common.

scaramouche had previously explained to you that close friendships within the fatui were greatly frowned upon, as it scarred their reputation as a somewhat reclusive organization. for this reason alone, you and scaramouche had agreed to keep your interactions outside of work private.

"well, it's good to know that i'm appreciated here," scaramouche sarcastically jeered, rolling his eyes.

"as i was saying, you do know that childe probably wouldn't approve of us meeting outside of work, or our friendship as a whole, right?"

the harbinger's name being thrown out suddenly sent a jolt down your spine as your stomach sunk in surprise.

"c-certainly our superiors in the fatui may be disapproving, but why would childe, out of anyone, possibly care?" you inquisited, keeping your dignified persona.

"besides, you know that he's never been the type to obediently follow the fatui's rules. in fact, he can't stand them," you added, forcing a laugh.

scaramouche cocked his head, a smirk forming on his lips.

"oh, quit your bantering. hasn't anybody told you that, despite the rules, tartaglia is very open with his feelings about you?"

you raised a brow, as you were unknowing to scaramouche's words.

"...feelings?"

"you seriously have no clue? that's just precious," scaramouche cackled. "and to think that i, for a mere second, considered you smart."

the boy burst out in laughter as you crossed your arms and shot him a death glare. that was scaramouche, all right. always finding the right words to tick you off.

"when i was on patrol with him, he wouldn't stop talking about you. honestly, i deserve a raise just for listening to his sorry self. it was pathetic," the boy phrased.

you blushed. you thought it was cute that the hydro harbinger spoke of you. though you had also taken a liking to childe during your short time as a fatui harbinger, the last thing you wanted was word getting out about your feelings for him. it was... embarrassing to say the least.

"oh?" you retorted. "and how exactly did he speak of me?"

"quite well, i'd assume," scaramouche scoffed. "if i kept listening, that is."
