'What the fuck are you doing, Madeline?'

She spun around to face James who was staring at her in shock and disdain. There was a short pause in which partner started at partner, one with a look of grim determination and other with sheltered betrayal. He knew exactly what she was doing but he didn't want to face it because he had been played. He placed her trust in her and she stabbed him in the back. Her eyes displayed no emotion as she said her next words.

'Mortals seek to become immortal; the idea of death terrifies and is the seed of fear which grows in the masses like a virus. Fear is a powerful motivator; it pushes people to the extremes of either lawful good or chaotic evil. What the people fear is a different question, the individuals at the top of the food chain fear the spread of the lower class and the doom that would bring to the world while the lower you travel down the chain, the fear of starvation becomes higher and higher until there is a point where fear of starvation surpasses the fear of the government completely and you then have the situation is occurring now.'

She gestured at the tower, still spewing fire and the hundreds of crazed people running as if possessed, hungry for violence. The boy's eyes never left her face; he did not have to look at the scene that was unfolding in front of him. He could feel the heat of the fires around them.

'The government is bullshit; they're gonna be the death of all of us and I have to do something'

'You think you're playing God-'

'Playing God? What about me makes you think I'm merely playing. I'm acting as God, defeating God, remolding God, wiping away the face of God and creating something better, something new in my own image.'

'You're insane-'

'Insane, or divine? Mad, or genius? It's all two sides of a spectrum you are too dull to comprehend.'

'Well then, you underestimate me. You've done that before and you remember what happened'

'You are a hypocrite, you know that? We are so similar, you and I. The only difference between us is that you're a goddamn coward, James, and that is why you can never defeat me. You'll never embrace your other side. You act like some hero but you're just as fucked up as the rest of them.'

James contemplated this, but ultimately, he knew that she was right. He was trying to be the voice of reason in a world that lust for blood and sooner or later, they would turn on him. Madeline saw this hesitation and used it to her advantage.

'If you start to judge me, try to remember that you're just as shitty as I am. The people you've killed, the families you destroyed, the lives you've taken? You say it's justified but it's time to grow up and face the consequences.'

She knew that she had hit home. The horror on her partner's face was just confirmation.

'I'm not the villain of this story, Five, and you shouldn't treat me as such. I'm just the girl who rights at the wrongs.'

A sudden wave of anger washes over him.

'So what, you're the fucking Messiah? The one who will save us from the end of the world?'

'No, im gonna fuck up the world so much that the ordinary little shits will have find a way to save it.'
